There is a character that occassionally visits my thoughts when I consider a protagonist for a novel. He is a teenager between 16 and 19. He is reserved, very capable and yet without many accomplishments. Anything he attempts is extraordinary and his peers hold him in disdain for this. Although he excels he loathes the activity once he masters it. He realizes that the world offers no means to achieve lasting happiness. So, like most juveniles, he hates it for that reason.
