Most writes state that their prime writing time is during the morning and afternoon. For me its the night. I hope that doesn't mean that this will never be a career and that it will always remain a hobby. I could write during the day but, unfortunately, I already have a career in the way.
But I program - that's a form of writing - telling a computer what to process instead of prompting a reader to imagine a situation or concept. I write the smallest discrete commands, assignments, storing, retrieval, processing, keywords, equations, functions, structures, methods, classes, subroutines, macros, scripts, tying them all together into one cohesive application optimized for a specific platform to accomplish a specific task.
I'll admit that I don't put as much thought into my coding as T.S. Eliot did into his pages of poetry, but my code has a tangible benefit, it keeps people employed and keeps the company functioning and making money. Sure the comments in the source code may be witty, but I'm the only one to see them. So I guess I'm trying to amuse myself.
My programs may lack the magic of Four Quartets or A Catcher in the Rye, but I still have style in my code, whether it be a spaghetti-digressing quality or concise and efficient, that code has style... By god, I better have some style...
